Lewes Low Cost Counselling was established in August 2012 by four qualified and experienced counsellors who recognised an urgent need for affordable counselling services for adults facing financial difficulties.
Initially, we operated from rooms generously provided free of charge by the House of Friendship. Subsequently, with the help of an £800 start-up grant from Lewes Town Council, we were able to rent a small room at The Hive on Lewes High Street for sessions during the daytime and evenings.
Today, we have a dedicated counselling room at The Hive exclusively for use by our counsellors.
The number of clients we support has grown steadily, and our volunteer team now includes twenty counsellors. Most are qualified and highly experienced, and occasionally we are joined by one or two trainee counsellors nearing the completion of their training.
As a charity, we receive no government funding and rely entirely on modest client contributions to meet our running costs. We have also gratefully received support from the Waitrose Green Token Scheme, Lewes Lions, Lewes Rotary, Nationwide Building Society, Sussex Community Foundation, and the National Citizens Society. We warmly thank these funders for their invaluable support.
We operate Monday to Friday, with all counsellors volunteering their time and expertise. Clients seeking counselling are requested to contact us directly, rather than through third parties.
