Lewes Low Cost Counselling was started in August 2012 by four qualified and experienced counsellors who were acutely aware of the need for a counselling service for adults on low incomes or in financial difficulties.

Initially we used rooms at the House of Friendship who kindly offered premises free of charge for a period to get us started. We applied to Lewes Town Council who gave us a starter grant of £800 which enabled us to pay some rent to the Hive where we had the use of their meeting room on certain days and in the evenings.

Now we rent a room for our sole use permanently at the Hive, Lewes High Street.

The number of clients we see has grown steadily and now we have nine counsellors   Most of our counsellors are qualified and experienced, and we sometimes have one or two trainee counsellors who are nearing the end of their training. The counsellors all volunteer their time.

We receive no government funding and rely on the small payments from clients to meet our running costs. We have also received funds from Waitrose Green Tokens, Lewes Lions, Lewes Rotary, Nationwide Building society, Sussex Community foundation and National Citizens Society. Many thanks to these funders for their support.

We are a Monday to Friday service run entirely by volunteers. People who require counselling need to contact us directly and not through a third party.
